For the wholemeal toast with sprouts, peel, halve and stone the apples. Cut into thin slices and fry briefly in a spoonful of melted butter.

Toast whole wheat bread, spread thinly with butter. Place steamed apple slices on bread and season with freshly ground pepper.

Grate cheese, place on top of apples and place in oven to briefly melt cheese.

Wash the sprouts and serve the wholemeal toast au gratin with sprouts.
